What about the movie Avatar? In 2009, an ambitious science fiction film was released with the intention of revolutionizing the cinema industry.James Cameron was involved in every aspect of the film’s creation, serving as director, writer, producer, and co-editor. We were told that work on the film began in 1994 but was put on hold until technology could catch up to Cameron’s vision.
However, it has been 14 years since the release of the colorful film, and we have been waiting ever since for further information about the planet Pandora and its inhabitants, the Na’vi. Avatar 2 has finally arrived, ending the long wait.
In the meanwhile, we’re remembering the cultural phenomenon that was the first film while we wait to stream the sequel.
There’s no better time than now, with Disney Plus finally live, to rewatch Cameron’s most offbeat picture.
The plot of Avatar?
In 2154, after depleting Earth’s natural resources, mankind begin exploiting the moon Pandora in the Alpha Centauri star system for its mineral wealth. The Na’vi, a peaceful race of blue-skinned humanoids, already call this planet home.
Avatars, Na’vi-human hybrids created in a lab, allow humans to enter Pandora by transferring control of the hybrids to a human brain on Earth.
One of these operators is Jake Sully, a paralyzed marine who, after making contact with Na’vi woman Neytiri, is promised the use of his legs again in exchange for intelligence on the Na’vi.
His feelings for Neytiri only add to the complications, and before long the Na’vi and the humans are at war.
What is the plot of Avatar 2?
Warning: The events of the first film reveal that Jake was ultimately able to join Neytiri because he was permanently transformed into his Na’vi form.
The second movie is about them as a married couple.
20th Century Fox describes Avatar: The Way of Water as “beginning to tell the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.” This is more than a decade after the events of the first film.
Who is back for the sequel?
Sam Worthington, an Australian actor, is back as Jake Sully, and Zoe Saldana is back as Neytiri.
Dr. Grace Augustine, played by Sigourney Weaver in the first film, did not survive. This time around, she plays Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted adolescent daughter.
Kate Winslet is playing Ronal, and she’s not alone. For the film’s motion-capture vision, she, like the rest of the ensemble, had to train in free-diving.
When will the next Avatar movie come out?
The sequel to “Avatar,” which opened in theaters on December 15, 2022, is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
The best way to get ready for it is to rewatch the Avatar series, also on Disney Plus, and become familiar with the backstory once again.
