Virgin Australia new CEO : Virgin Australia Appoints Dave Emerson as New Chief Executive
Virgin Australia has named Dave Emerson as its next chief executive. Emerson, who currently serves as the airline’s chief commercial officer, will succeed Jayne Hrdlicka, who announced her departure last year.
The transition process will begin immediately, with Emerson officially stepping into the CEO role on March 14, according to the airline.
Emerson’s Commitment to Preserving Company Culture
Virgin Australia Chairman Ryan Cotton stated that Emerson was selected following an extensive global search.
“Comprehensive plans are set to drive ongoing growth, solid business performance, and strategic continuity, strengthening Virgin Australia’s competitive edge in the Australian market,” Cotton said.
Virgin Australia’s Plans for Continued Growth and Performance
Dave truly values what makes Virgin Australia unique — our team and our people — and is committed to preserving and nurturing our exceptional culture.
“We are confident that Dave will seamlessly lead the business, driving continued strong performance and growth,” the statement said.
Emerson expressed gratitude for being appointed to the top position, saying he felt “humbled” by the opportunity.
“Travel is essential to how we live, and Virgin Australia plays a crucial role in making that possible for communities every day,” he said.

“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Virgin Australia’s incredible transformation over the past four years as we’ve reinvented the airline.”
“Our customers are at the core of what we do, but it’s our people who are the heart and soul of this organization,” Emerson said.
“Today, we’re proud to be Australia’s most loved airline, known for industry-leading operational performance and record-breaking financial results.
“I’m committed to continuing the transformation journey that began under Jayne’s exceptional leadership.”
Meanwhile, last week, Qatar Airways received approval to acquire a 25% stake in Virgin Australia, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers supporting the decision based on advice from the Foreign Investment Review Board.
