Thunderstorms are set to cover much of central and eastern Australia over the coming week, with an unusually wet October driven by El Niño, according to ABC Melbourne. The ABC’s headline said this El Niño is set to be the wettest on record.
The West Australian reported that Australia had recorded its wettest El Niño winter in 35 years, with widespread storms and flash flooding forecast to affect millions of people this week (see The West Australian).
The ABC’s Victoria coverage on 17 October also carried reports of severe storms and flash flooding in the state. Farmers in Victoria’s north-west are separately dealing with rising locust numbers ahead of what the ABC called record crops.
