Heartbreaking Tribute : The mother of a 27-year-old woman tragically killed in a case of mistaken arson in Melbourne has expressed that her “heart will be forever broken.”
Katie Tangey was staying at her brother’s home, house-sitting while he was away on his honeymoon, when a fire engulfed the three-story building on Dover Street in Truganina around 2 a.m. yesterday.
According to police, two men are suspected of pouring an accelerant into the house and setting it on fire while Tangey was inside.

Her mother, Tracey Tangey, has confirmed today that her “beautiful baby girl” tragically lost her life in the attack.
“I am completely shattered and have no idea how we will ever recover from this heartbreaking news. Please remember our beautiful soul in your own special way,” she wrote in a heartfelt social media post.
“Rest, my baby bub. Mum loves you more than you could ever know. You are, and always will be, my best friend and the love of my life. My heart will remain forever broken.”
Mother’s Heartfelt Tribute to Her Beloved Daughter
Tangey, known by her stage name Vivien May-Royale, was a beloved burlesque performer who had become a cherished figure in Melbourne’s art scene.
Today, her friends, family, and peers shared heartfelt tributes online.
“Katie was a bright light, a magnificent glamour queen, and a sweet, sweet person,” wrote Gemma Sheree.
“I adored her. Phoenix Burlesque adored her. And we loved her relationship with her beautiful, fierce mum, Tracey Tangey. Katie’s family is beyond devastated,” added Cherry Charleston.
“The devastating loss of the iconic Vivien May-Royale—Katie Lee—is shattering. All my love to Tracey Tangey. She was loved by all of us, but that was only a fraction compared to the love you both shared. She will be deeply missed,” expressed Icky K Spriggins.
Police are continuing their search for two men suspected of carrying out the arson attack.

CCTV footage shows the pair arriving in a dark-colored car, parking outside the home, and then pouring accelerant into the building.
Investigators believe the attack was a tragic case of mistaken identity.
“This individual was completely innocent and should never have lost her life. We have no prior history connected to her or her family,” Arson and Explosives Squad Detective Inspector Chris Murray said during a press conference yesterday.

“The offenders targeted the wrong address, which is an absolute tragedy.”
“We are now investigating this as a homicide, regardless of the offenders’ intentions,” authorities stated.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
