Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, recently demoted, will address an Indian Society gathering on Thursday evening, just hours after losing her position on the frontbench following controversial comments about Indian migrants.

On Wednesday afternoon, the former opposition defence industry minister released a statement, revealing that Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley had “asked (her) to step down from the shadow ministry.

The decision came after a week of internal party conflict triggered by Senator Price’s remarks that the Labor Party had increased Indian migration to gain more votes.

Although she later withdrew the statements, she did not issue an apology.

Now relegated to the backbench, Senator Price is scheduled to speak at a sold-out Liberal Party fundraiser on Thursday evening, held at the Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA) community center in Willetton, a suburb of Perth.

The event is promoted as featuring Senator Price alongside outspoken WA Liberal MP Nick Goiran, both described as “two MPs unafraid to speak their truth.

The ISWA told the ABC that it had no involvement in organizing the event, which was merely booked via an online platform.

In the lead-up to the event, WA Liberal leader Basil Zempilas sent a letter to ISWA addressing the rising anti-migrant sentiment sparked by last month’s ‘March for Australia’ rallies.

Notably, the letter made no explicit mention of Senator Price’s controversial remarks.

As someone shaped by Western Australia’s proud migrant history, I feel it is important to respond to recent public

commentary about Australia’s immigration policies and our migrant communities, especially the Indian community,” Mr Zempilas wrote.

Freedom of speech and the right to protest are fundamental pillars of Australian democracy. However, some of the views expressed in recent weeks have been unproductive.

That behavior does not reflect the Australian spirit, nor does it represent the values of cultural diversity that define our State.

Migrants have been and continue to be an integral part of our communities.

Their contributions make those communities and our State stronger and more vibrant.

I regret that members of your community may have felt aggrieved and hurt by recent commentary and commit to working with you to move forward in the spirit of inclusion and cohesion.”

Mr Zempilas told media outside parliament that he would not be attending the event but it would go ahead as planned on Thursday.

A fundraiser that was organized some time ago is happening tonight,” he said.

I acknowledge that Senator Jacinta Price is part of the panel for the event, and that’s fair enough.

I spoke with members of the Indian community, and they were comfortable with the event taking place at that venue.

Housing Minister John Carey told the media that the Opposition Leader should cancel the event.

If he truly cares about the impact on the Indian community, he should cancel it,” he stated.

The event was organized by Michelle Hofmann MLC, who told reporters that 500 tickets had already been sold and described it as a great occasion.

Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price is an outstanding parliamentarian,” she said.

She is deeply committed to her community, and many people are eagerly looking forward to seeing her speak tonight.
