Hollywood actress Brie Larson has swapped her iconic long, blonde locks for a shorter, bolder hairstyle.
Brie Larson has swapped her long, golden blonde hair for a bold new look.
The Captain Marvel actress cut her hair in preparation for her upcoming role as the title character in the West End drama Elektra.
On Monday, Larson, 35, revealed her dramatic hair transformation on Instagram, showcasing a brunette pixie cut with side-swept bangs.
The actress captioned her post, “Elektra is here.”
Although Larson shared the photos in black-and-white, it seems she chose a much darker hair color.
In the first slide, the Oscar winner was seen beaming with a wide smile as she proudly showcased her new look.
The second slide showcased her striking a more serious pose, accompanied by a smize.
The Lessons in Chemistry star also shared a closer view of her hairstyle on her Instagram Story, adding a simple black heart emoji to the caption of the selfie.
The transformation occurs less than two months before Larson is scheduled to perform at Theatre Royal in Brighton, England.
Larson will take on the role of Elektra, a woman “haunted by her father’s assassination” and “consumed by grief, a need for survival, and a thirst for vengeance,” according to the play’s website.
The production of Elektra will be adapted from the Greek tragedy by Sophocles, with a translation by poet Anne Carson.
Shortly after Larson posted pictures of her pixie cut on social media, many of her followers flooded the comments to praise how perfectly the transformation suits her as she prepares for the role.
“Your face is so dynamic and suits so many hairstyles, and this cut is no exception,” one fan raved on X.
“YOUR HAIR?!! OMGGGGG!!!! YOU LOOK AMAZING AS ELEKTRA!!” another commented on Larson’s post on X.
While many admired Larson’s physical transformation into Elektra, others weren’t as impressed.
“It’s different. I have to admit, I prefer the longer hair,” one critic commented, while another said, “Oh no. What did you do? Can’t wait for it to grow back!!”
Meanwhile, another follower was thinking of Jennifer Garner’s 2005 portrayal of Elektra.
“Not the Elektra I had in mind,” they wrote, sharing a photo of Garner from the film’s poster.
Larson’s play will be performed at the Theatre Royal in Brighton from January 13 to January 18, and then at London’s Duke of York Theatre from January 24 to April 12.
