Sydney Police Officer in Fake Gun Controversy – It Was Just Cake!

Sydney police fake gun scandal, NSW officer viral video, Burwood cop cake gun controversy, rookie police disciplinary action, marzipan gun social media incident

A rookie Sydney police officer has faced embarrassment and disciplinary action after being implicated in a “fake gun” controversy during his very first week on duty.

The 20-year-old officer from Burwood, who had just graduated last week, sparked trouble when a social media video surfaced showing him posing with two replica firearms, according to 2GB’s Ben Fordham.

Carrying a replica gun without the proper permit is considered a criminal offence for both police officers and civilians.

Police Investigation Reveals Shocking Truth

Burwood Police Commander, Superintendent Christine McDonald, told the radio program that the matter was thoroughly investigated once it came to their attention.

She explained that the fake guns were actually cake decorations and that the young officer had been attending a family party celebrating his induction into the force.

McDonald added that had the items been genuine replica firearms, the officer would have lost his job immediately.

Viral Video Shows Officer Posing with Replica Firearms

What we’ve determined is that the firearms he’s holding in the video are actually cake decorations,” McDonald said.

They’re made from marzipan or a ganache-like material — essentially, they’re part of the cake. That’s why I can’t take any action against him for possessing replica firearms.

If they were genuine replicas, he would already be out of the force.

McDonald admitted the situation was a “terrible look” for the NSW Police.

To be honest, I’m furious with the officer for drawing this level of attention and embarrassment to our command and colleagues,” she said.

She clarified that the young graduate didn’t post the video himself; it was shared by someone else at the party.

McDonald added that the officer had learned a harsh lesson and was “absolutely gutted” by the experience.
