A former colleague of Tiger King star Joe Exotic has died after being fatally mauled by a tiger in Oklahoma.

The victim, identified as Ryan Easley, was attacked on Saturday in what has been described as a tragic accident.

Easley, who owned the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve, has left the facility temporarily closed, with all tours cancelled until further notice.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues, who remembered Ryan as a “passionate advocate for wildlife conservation.

Joseph Maldonado, widely recognized as Joe Exotic, also addressed Ryan’s death in a social media post that has since been deleted, according to The Oklahoman.

According to The Oklahoman, Joe Exotic—whose real name is Joseph Maldonado—acknowledged Ryan’s passing in a social media post later removed.

Joe Exotic Reacts to Former Colleague’s Death

Maldonado, who was previously convicted on 19 federal charges including wildlife violations and a high-profile murder-for-hire plot, also shared his condolences.

He wrote: “Prayers go out to his family. Ryan took great care of his animals! He loved every one of those tigers and was an advocate not only for tigers but for elephants as well.”

According to animal rights group PETA, Ryan had obtained tigers from the imprisoned Tiger King star.


PETA Foundation Senior Director of Captive Wildlife, Debbie Metzler, commented: “It’s never safe for humans to have direct contact with apex predators, and it’s never surprising when a stressed big cat—confined, whipped, and deprived of everything natural and vital to them—lashes out in attack.

Growler Pines Tiger Preserve Temporarily Closed After Incident

The organization urged animal exhibitors to “leave the business immediately and transfer the animals to accredited sanctuaries where they can finally live in peace.”

The precise circumstances of Ryan’s death have not yet been confirmed.

His death follows another recent tragedy in California, where a tech CEO fell to his death while hiking on Mount Shasta.

Matias Augusto Travizano reportedly slipped while descending the peak. Attempting to slide down an icy slope after becoming stuck, he lost control and plummeted nearly 300 feet (91 meters) into a boulder.

The sheriff’s office noted that although the Clear Creek Route is regarded as one of the mountain’s “safer” paths to the summit, climbers can easily become disoriented in poor visibility—especially while descending from the summit plateau.

Once off the trail, they often stray into more dangerous areas such as the Ash Creek or Mud Creek drainages, where accidents are far more likely to happen.
