Now, 25 years after its original cancellation, a brand-new team of lifeguards will once again run in slow motion straight into the limelight.

Fox has announced a fresh 12-episode season, produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, slated to air during 2026-27.

The Legacy of Baywatch

The original series centered on the lives of lifeguards patrolling Los Angeles beaches, with David Hasselhoff fronting the cast as the legendary Mitch Buchanan.

It also launched Pamela Anderson into international superstardom through her role as C.J. Parker.

Iconic Red Swimsuits Return to TV Screens in 2026-27

Although critics often dismissed it, Baywatch became a cultural juggernaut, winning over audiences worldwide.

Baywatch – A Global Television Phenomenon

At its peak, it was the most-watched television program on the planet, attracting an incredible 1.1 billion viewers across more than 200 countries.

In its later years, the show was rebranded as Baywatch: Hawaii, introducing a young Jason Momoa—who would go on to become Aquaman—to the cast. The series eventually wrapped in 2001 after an impressive 12 seasons.

“Now, with Fremantle, along with Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, we’re bringing this global phenomenon back for a modern audience—filled with new stories, fresh talent, and all the spectacle that made Baywatch a worldwide sensation.

Fox and Fremantle Confirm Modern-Day Comeback

The franchise has already enjoyed a revival on the big screen, with the 2017 feature film starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Priyanka Chopra.

And in 2019, Pamela Anderson revealed to The New York Times that she still owns her famous red swimsuit from the original series.
